Next, write a Company Manual and include your Mission Statement, along with any instructions or protocols that you will need. You can use the examples from the list in this lesson, but tailor the list to meet your specific needs. In the Manual, explain how you will share documents, how you will communicate “face to face”, and why.
Explain the steps or protocols in case of an emergency (e.g. you get in an accident and are in hospital for a month) OR what should happen if you go on vacation for a month. Remember that the goal is to ensure that your business runs without you, as much as possible.
In a Word document, list your 2 project positions that you need filled, then copy and paste the profiles of the three candidates below each position. (This means that you’ll have a total of 6 people for which you will submit their details.) Explain why you chose each person, considering their feedback (how many stars do they have out of 5?), their hourly rate, and their portfolio of projects that they have completed on oDesk previously.
Create a sample project to test each candidate. It can be one you have in mind, or one you make up. Be specific with your requests, making sure to answer all the Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How? questions.
Write down your goals and objectives for the project. Mindmap the project or create lists on separate pages in Word to show which team member (including yourself) is responsible for each action. Note that you will have at least 3 pages in Word, or at least 3 main nodes in your mindmap—one for you and two for the two people you “hired”.

Systematize and Automate Assignment
Consider your entrepreneurial venture. Make a list of all the tasks that need to get done that you think you should outsource. From your list of tasks, choose at least two that you will automate and then decide what virtual team members you would use if you had a budget of anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000/month. Then “plan” on hiring two team members who have different functions to fill these roles (Note: you do not actually have to hire them. You just need to go through the steps). Go to www.odesk.com and search contractors and decide on three people for each of the two positions to shortlist.
State the days of the week and times your team (or you with individuals) will meet to discuss the project. Take into consideration the time zone and time difference of your VAs.
When you are finished, submit the assignment in a Word document to your teacher.
